Software Firm Saphetor Partners With CRO to Advance Clinical Trial Strategies

NEW YORK – Software firm Saphetor on Tuesday said it has partnered with Icon, a Dublin-based clinical research organization, to develop clinical research strategies in the precision medicine and rare diseases spaces.

The partnership builds on VarSome Insights, a service from Lausanne, Switzerland-based Saphetor that allows customers to search data from its variant interpretation tool, VarSome.com. The companies plan to codevelop approaches that would make it easier for healthcare providers and researchers to receive new information about disease-causing genetic variants through VarSome and make patients aware of relevant clinical trial opportunities.

The VarSome.com engine also collects metadata on the geographic location of a customer's variant query, which can inform clinical trial site selection.

"We're pleased to be collaborating with Saphetor to explore the potential of VarSome in delivering really significant data that will support the effectiveness of rare disease clinical trials," Travis Caudill, VP of feasibility and clinical informatics at Icon, said in a statement. "The more meaningful data that we can use to inform clinical trial strategies, the more meaningful progress we can make."
