NEW YORK – Indiana University and the Indiana Biosciences Research Institute on Wednesday said they are creating the Joint Center of Excellence for Point of Care Precision Medicine to advance personalized therapies for cancer, diabetes and metabolism disorders, pediatric rare diseases, and Alzheimer's disease.
The founding members of the center of excellence include Indiana Biosciences Research Institute, the IU School of Medicine, along with several IU research institutes including the IU Indianapolis' Convergent Bioscience and Technology Institute, Institute for Human Health and Wellbeing, and Integrated Nanosystems Development Institute.
The center will focus on research that helps diagnose patients' diseases more accurately and improves their outcomes with personalized treatment approaches. The group aims to develop new technologies, therapies, diagnostics, and manufacturing processes that are available at the point of care, advance predictive data systems, and conduct clinical research.
The group will also partner with pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical devices companies to advance these tools.
"With the establishment of the new center of excellence, we aim to enhance our strategic efforts in advancing scientific research, patient care, and the life sciences economy," Indiana Biosciences Research Institute CEO Alan Palkowitz said in a statement. "This initiative will not only generate new enterprises and attract investments but also develop high-caliber scientific and entrepreneurial talent, further distinguishing Indiana as an innovation powerhouse."
